Lies.
Big ones.
Little ones.
White lies.
Straight-out, bold-faced ones.
I don't want to hurt your feelings, so I lie - kind of lies.
A filtered and staged post that reads 'be jealous' - kind of lie.
An exaggerated story - (because maybe I want to seem more than I am) - So, I stretched the facts - kind of lies.
Lies.
The word LIE is defined in Webster's dictionary as "to make an untrue statement with the intent to deceive."
I hate to admit it, but I have told a few. How about you?
I once heard a Godly man say, "You are never more like the Devil than when you tell a lie. Ouch!! And friends, that is NOT a lie. :)
"You are never more like the Devil than when you tell a lie."
We act like Satan when we lie. Satan is the Father of all lies. He was the original lie-teller. His motive is deception. You can read the documentation in Genesis 3, but here are the cliff notes: God created and gave Adam and Eve a beautiful paradise called the Garden of Eden. They were given every fruit tree to eat, with the exception of one. God warned them not to eat from the 'Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil', for if they did, they would die. However, Satan, in his cunning and deceptive way, planted a seed of doubt in Eve's mind with a simple question. "Did God really say . . . ?" Later, Satan directly contradicted God's truth as he told Eve, "You will certainly not die." With this lie, Satan tempted Eve; Eve listened and acted on the lie. Adam followed into sin, and so has every man and woman since the very first lie. (Genesis 3:1-13)
The flip side is that God has never lied. We are never more like Christ when we speak the truth. When we stand for truth in a world full of lies, we act like Christ. We represent Light in a dark world. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 ESV) Jesus Christ is truth, and he speaks truth.
"I am the way the truth and the life." John 15:6
So, I ask myself, who will I portray today- Satan, the Father of all lies, or my Lord, who has never told a lie?
I ask you the same. :)

Great way to spell out what lying can look like today! I was reading John 8 today and see how much the Pharisees were like their father - the devil - because of their lies, too.
