It seemed impossible to climb. With hands overhead, I ran my fingers along the boulder, searching for a crevice in the rock - Anything to give me leverage. But, with a red face, panting breath, and tired limbs, I found no way to conquer the obstacle in front of me. The boulder stood high and hard as my body screamed for rest. (Now if you are a true climber then give me some grace. HAHA - I know this rock would be a baby to you. :)
However, the funny thing is I did not see the complete picture. On the other side of 'my' massive obstacle were simple steps to the top. The back side rested against the mountain terrain. It was an easy climb to the top from the back side of the boulder.
My mind travels from this rock to the hard places in the path of life. Often, there is a seemly unclimbable barrier in life's journey. Sometimes, I feel there is no way to climb over the obstacle. Usually, I make the situation complicated as frustration reigns. I momentarily forget there is always more than what I see directly in front of me. However, my Lord knows the complete picture.
My Lord sees the back side of the boulder.
He sees what I cannot. He knows the details of the mountainside terrain of my life's journey. He has the complete picture. He will guide me each step of the way to overcome every challenging climb. I don't have to worry. There is no need to let frustration rule in my heart. I don't have to figure it out - I can trust the One who sees the beginning and the end. Knowing He sees the whole picture, I can lean into His wisdom and direction. He is aware of the back side of the boulder.
Yes, I still have mountains to climb and dark valleys to walk through. However, I am choosing to trust Jesus along the way. I am trusting Him each step of the journey.
How about you?
What obstacle is in your path today?
What is standing hard and high in front of you that seems overwhelming?
Sweet friend, - Trust Him. Let Him guide you. He sees the back side of the boulder. He will show us how to overcome. He will guide our steps. My Lord will give us the way for you and me to walk safely home. :)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
