When She was Brave Enough to Play

Once upon a time, a long time ago,

we honestly had a good show of snow!

A silent white blanket fell all around my country home,

with a soft invitation to come and roam.

So, my younger two, who were still home at the time,

bundled up and tumbled out to let their imagination climb.

And before long, a snowman was born, and a snow angel lay,

in the side field filled with snowflakes that day.

My current visions still unfold of boys who were then little men,

who played with their beloved furry friend.

These magical moments come to mind,

when wishing for snow every year at this time.

But what I love most when I think of that cold, brisk day,

is the little girl within me -who was brave enough to step out and play.

The 'mature one' who unexpectedly let go of her long list and deep stress

to embrace and enjoy the family fun, like the rest.

So, friend, I advise you today to treasure life along the way.

Remember, often, it is best to simply pause and learn to play.

In the good, the bad, and even if hurts are held within,

there is still a little child who must never feel trapped again.

I bid you to unchain your inner child to embrace the silly and the fun,

Because your trips around the sun are indeed a limited one.

Learn from the older me, for my little girl is running free!

A joy is to be had when life is unbound and play is found.

'There is a time for everything

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.' (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4)
